So Much Depends On Where You Live

I literally could not put this book down. The author’s compassion and empathy for foster children (and all children) left me dumbstruck. The wonderful diversity of voices and experiences in the first section, coupled with a bit of whimsy, led me into the depth of the second. The variety of voices in the second part opens a wide world of feeling, imagination, and expression. The final part resonates on a whole new universal level. This is the work of a master. It will touch many lives, and not all of them children.

—Robert Eugene Perry, poet and author of Surrendering to the Path, Earthsongs, & more

In So Much Depends on Where You Live, Curt Curtin powerfully captures the complicated emotions of many children our organization serves within the foster care system. Many poems address the trauma children face while navigating the instability and unpredictability that come with being displaced or other stressful situations. The poems address a sometimes heavy and painful journey while incorporating language that is light and age-appropriate. As a former foster child, I found these poems to be relatable and touching. I believe that, like me, many children and adults will identify with Curt’s words, helping them process feelings about their experiences. Older children, adolescents and adults will enjoy this heartfelt collection; it will spark conversation, compassion, and healing.
